Detailed Description+

Assesses verbal fluency. This is the ability to find words with particular characteristics in one’s mental lexicon and verbalize them. There are two subdimensions of verbal fluency: semantic and lexical (also called phonemic) word fluency. A certain degree of verbal fluency is essential in order to be able to function in social and work-related situations. Assessment of verbal fluency is particularly important in clinical neuropsychology, because verbal fluency is impaired in many different neurological and psychiatric disorders.

S1: Standard form – semantic verbal fluency.

S2: Parallel form – semantic verbal fluency.

S3: Standard form – lexical verbal fluency.

S4: Parallel form – lexical verbal fluency.

Task+

The respondent has either one or two minutes in which to name as many words as possible that begin with a certain letter (lexical verbal fluency) or belong to a certain category (semantic verbal fluency).
