Detailed Description+

Assesses reactive stress tolerance and ability to react under complex stimulus conditions.
The Determination Test is a complex multi-stimuli reaction test involving the presentation of both colored stimuli and acoustic signals to which the respondent reacts by pressing the appropriate buttons on the response panel and using the foot pedals. The stress element of the DT arises from the need to sustain continuous, rapid and varying responses to rapidly changing stimuli. Because test presentation is adaptive, any individual can be confronted with stimuli at a frequency sufficiently high to place him in a situation in which he is over-challenged and can no longer execute the necessary responses. The DT can therefore be used to investigate behavior under various levels of psychophysical stress. The test is used in recruitment for positions with safety-related requirements (safety assessments), in staff development, in clinical neuropsychology, in traffic psychology and in sports psychology.

Test forms+

S1: Short form with adaptive stimulus presentation (all stimulus types)
S2: Long form with adaptive stimulus presentation (all stimulus types)
S3: Free stimulus duration (colors and tones; Rostock Form)

S5: Fixed stimulus duration (all stimulus types; Vienna Form A)
S6: Fixed stimulus presentation (colors; Vienna Form B)

Task+

Respondents react as quickly as they can to optical or acoustic stimuli by pressing the appropriate buttons on the response panel or using the foot pedals.

Scoring+

The following main variables are scored, depending on the test form:

  • S1 and S2 (adaptive mode):
Measure of the respondent’s reactive stress tolerance and ability to react under stress conditions.

  • S3 (action mode):
Median reaction time – measure of the ability to react (based on the speed and accuracy of the ability to react).

  • S4: Test form S4 (action and reaction mode):
    • Subtest 1 – Action mode: description and interpretation of the variables as for test form S3.
    • Subtest 2 – Reaction mode: description and interpretation of the variables as for test forms S5 and S6.

  • S5 and S6 (reaction mode):
Median reaction time – Measure of the ability to react and reactive stress tolerance.
