Detailed Description+

Measures work-related cognitive skills on the basis of the three factors of logical reasoning, verbal ability and numerical ability. This intelligence test battery has been developed with special reference to the prediction of success in everyday office work. The item material is based on everyday work situations, thereby ensuring that candidates are highly motivated. SMART is therefore used in Staff & Management Assessments.

Task+

The candidate is asked to imagine that he/she is starting work in a fictive large company. In the course of the working day the candidate is given a number of different tasks, such as planning the day’s schedule, preparing a talk, organizing travel for a member of the board and checking the previous year’s balance sheet. Each task has to be completed within a particular time window.

Scoring+

The scoring of SMART yields an overall score for general cognitive competence and three factor scores at subtest level:

  • Logical reasoning: This variable provides a measure of logical reasoning ability when dealing with work-related material.
  • Verbal ability: This variable depicts the ability to understand textual material of the sort typically encountered at work.
  • Numerical ability: This variable measures arithmetical ability and the ability to handle numerical material in a work-related context.
